3D Printed Titanium Alloy Sternum Implant Surgery was Successfully Implemented
Recently, Tangdu Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University recently performed the world's first 3D printed titanium alloy sternum implant operation for a female patient suffering from sternal tumor. These days, in the ward of Tangdu Hospital, the author saw this patient who was recovering after surgery, she is now feeling well and eating normally.
According to the reports, when the patient came to the hospital, the diameter of the sternal tumor had reached 60 or 70 mm and must be removed surgically. However, the traditional sternal resection would cause a large defects in the patient's anterior chest, which would affect the respiratory function and appearance, also will cause serious effects.
After many consultations by the hospital's treatment team, it was finally decided to remove the patient's sternum tumor and then implant a 3D printed titanium alloy sternum.
Wang Xiaoping, Deputy Chief Physician of Thoracic Surgery, Tangdu Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University, said that Remove the entire tumor and sternum, and then implant our pre-printed titanium alloy model, which can be raised (with the chest cavity) during breathing.
According to Professor Wang Xiaoping's suggestion, so far, the patient has recovered smoothly without any rejection in his body.
