Japan Vanadium-Free High-Strength Titanium Alloy Registered As ASTM Standard

The DAT57M vanadium-free high-strength titanium alloy, developed by Daido Special Steel Co., Ltd. of Japan was successfully registered into the American ASTM B348/B348M Standard Specification for Titanium and Titanium Alloy Bars and Billets, with a registered grade of Grade 41. DAT57M titanium alloy is composed of Ti-6Al-1Fe, which belongs to α+β titanium alloy. Its specific gravity is 4.39, slightly lower than that of Ti-6Al-4V alloy 4.43; the mechanical properties such as tensile strength and fatigue strength, as well as thermoforming and machining properties, are comparable to that of Ti-6Al-4V alloy, and it does not contain vanadium. It is expected to replace the currently widely used Ti-6Al-4V alloy in the future.
