The First National Key R&D Plan For Titanium Alloy Oil and Gas Pipelines Settled in Shaanxi

It has been learned that the project "Research and Development and Application of High-performance titanium alloy pipe for Drilling harsh environmental energy Wells", which is led by Feng Chun from The Engineering Materials Research Institute of CNPC, a state-owned enterprise in Shaanxi, has been approved as the 2021 annual project of the National Key RESEARCH and development Plan "Advanced Structure and Composite Materials".

As the first key special project of the national key R&D plan related to titanium alloy pipes in the field of oil and gas drilling and production in China. The project focuses on the major demand for titanium alloy pipes in national energy drilling and production projects, and works from three aspects: basic research, common key technologies and application demonstrations. It develops complete sets of technologies for the manufacture of high-performance titanium alloy drill pipes and oil casing pipes, and overcomes key technical problems such as the manufacture of special threaded joints and their connections, the evaluation and application of pipe applicability, and establishes a complete application evaluation system and related standards to achieve industrial stable production and engineering demonstration applications. It lays the foundation for the comprehensive application of domestic high-performance titanium alloy drilling and production pipes in major strategic projects such as deep oil and gas and combustible ice in China, and lays the foundation for the realization of lightweight pipe columns and the creation of on-land special projects. Provide technical support for the strategic replacement area for ultra-deep oil and gas exploration.

The total funding of the project is 91.3 million yuan, with 23 million yuan from the central government, and the implementation period is four years. Led by the Engineering Materials Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation, it cooperates with 9 domestic dominant units such as Baoji Titanium Industry Co., Ltd., Northwest Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, Tianjin Steel Pipe Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Central South University to carry out full-chain research and development and collaborative innovation based on the framework of “production-learning-research-inspection-use”.

Feng Chun, the special person in charge of the Engineering Materials Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation, said that the implementation of the project will break through the main technical bottlenecks in the design, manufacturing, testing, evaluation, and application of high-performance titanium alloy pipes for energy well drilling in harsh environments in China, and form a complete technical system for the entire industry chain to enhance the processing technology level of China's titanium industry and the drilling and production capabilities of the energy industry to meet the country's major strategic needs.
