Advantages of Pure Titanium and Titanium Alloy Eyeglass Frames

Advantages and identification of pure titanium and titanium alloy eyeglass frames:

Titanium has good corrosion resistance, similar to platinum (commonly known as platinum), its mechanical properties are excellent, the texture is lightweight, and the unit weight is only 48% of the general metal. Therefore, titanium is the ideal eyeglass frame material because it is incomparable light, elastic, and corrosion-resistant. However, the production cost of titanium and titanium alloy glasses is higher, and there are special high requirements for the process in terms of cutting, stamping, welding and electroplating (for example: welding must be completed in a vacuum), so the price is more expensive.

With the development of titanium materials and the increasing maturity of processing technology, a variety of titanium-based frames such as pure titanium, β titanium, and memory titanium have appeared on the market. Among them, the purity requirements of the frame of pure titanium material reach 99.9% (excluding gaskets, screws, brackets and leg covers), and its logo is called PURETITANIUM, or abbreviated as Ti-P and so on. However, individual manufacturers have also identified some non-pure titanium or titanium alloy materials under the drive of interests, coupled with the lack of ability of consumers to identify pure titanium frames, resulting in frame rust, skin allergies and other phenomena after consumers wear titanium frames, harming the interests of the majority of consumers.

The following describes several simple methods for identifying pure titanium eyeglass frames.

1. Weigh the weight by hand, usually the specific gravity of the alloy frame is about 8.9 g/cm3, and the specific gravity of the pure titanium frame is about 4.5 g/cm3. Since the weight of the titanium material is equivalent to half of the alloy frame, it is relatively light to weigh by hand. This is one of the easiest ways to distinguish between titanium frames and non-titanium frames.

2. Observe the welding points of the nose bracket stem and nose bracket leaf bucket. The welding of pure titanium material is vacuum oxygen-free touch welding. Here the welding marks are“step” - like, the welding marks of alloy materials are spot welding, and the welding marks are " slope” - like. This is one of the effective ways to distinguish between titanium and non-titanium frames.

3. Observe whether there is a gasket at the hinge junction. The pure titanium frame should not make direct contact between titanium and titanium at the hinge site, otherwise it is prone to wrinkling at the junction and poor opening and closing of the temples. Usually two thin gaskets are inlaid in the hinge part of the pure titanium frame to separate the upper and lower hinges. Therefore, checking whether there is a gasket at the hinge is also a good way to identify whether there is a pure titanium frame.

4. Use a magnet to do a magnetic reaction, loosen the hinge of the frame as much as possible, and attract it with a magnet in a free movement state. If the temples shake under the attraction of the magnet, it means that the frame is not a pure titanium material, and on the contrary, it means that the frame may be a pure titanium frame.
